Spray Painted Car Help

Hi-

I'm trying to help someone that got their car rattle canned sprayed. A body shop guy recommended using reducer on a terry cloth towel to remove the paint without affecting the clear coat. It's for a fairly new Impreza. Is that a good strategy?

TIA!
