Wurth SKS Stoneguard Advice

Anybody out there with experience in applying SKS Stonguard? I am refinishing the fuel tank from an 87 Carrera and want to replicate the factory finish as best I can. I have the Wurth spray gun but have no idea how this stuff will spray on. The tank has been completely stripped down to bare metal, all rust removed, and painted with epoxy primer. The original rubberized coating was pretty thick. Can you spray the SKS on thick in one coat without runs and sags or should you apply multiple coats? I have an extra bottle of SKS that I can use for practice on something like an old barbecue but I would appreciate any suggestions from those that have used this before. Thanks!!

i have found over the years of restoring porsches that U-POL's gravi tex plus works best to match the OE finish on the fuel tanks . you can intermix the black and white to get the proper color and it has the right film build too . i never liked the wurth chip guard allthow you can get the proper mill build with 3 to 4 coats its just not the right color . so you will have to spray the right color over it and thats not the way porsche does it .

Hello,

I certainly understand the importance of color for the result you are looking for. It will certainly be easier to do in one step with the above advice. The Wurth SKS is very easy to work with otherwise, and you can build the texture as you like without having to rush the coats. The setup time is not so rapid that you have to get it right the first time. They do sell cans of the stoneguard which are great for smaller projects and save you the time cleaning and prepping the gun. This will not allow you to mix colors for proper tone. Good luck with your project,
