Broken Crankshaft

Hello everybody,

I recently purchased a 1962 356 B Coupe (not running). I, myself haven't been able to open up the engine case yet, but the previous owner said it has a broken crank.
My question is... if indeed it is a broken crank, what else can I expect to have failed and will be needed to replaced along with it?

Muchos Gracias

Aside from all the normal rebuild parts, if the crank is indeed broken it will probably require, at the very least, some engine case work. In a worst case , the case may have to be replaced. For case work, i would recommend Competition Engineering in in Bodfish, CA. They can machine the case halves, then return the main bearing bores to standard eliminating the need for oversized outsized diameter main bearings. Bear in mind that this can only be done if the wallowing of the bearing bores is within a reasonable dimension. If you send them the case they can measure and advise. Their phone is 760-379-3879. Broken cranks are not unknown on 356s (or 912s) and are not usually the result of some other failure.

Good Luck!!
