Valve stem protectors

What is the purpose of valve stem protectors I see on 356 rims, just curious. I don’t own a 356 but saw them on a car and was wondering. Thanks

The plated wire valve stem supports prevent the rubber valve stem from being bent over by centrifugal force at high speed. Early on, there were some failures of valve stems on tubes.
911's with fuchs wheels will sometimes have an aluminum valve stem support for the same reason.
