Anyone done a 356 outlaw upgrade using a 914 as the power plant ?
What is required ? Target car is an open "A" Especially interested in those where a High Power 914 (>2.2L) was used with a 741 or 901 trans I know about the Flywheel <200mm for a 741 What running gear was used ? Best Gear Ratios? What Brakes / Suspension Mods are needed? What Trans/Engine mount Mods needed to handle the extra torque? Would really value the advice Cheers Higg

Hello
Been there but the the engine was a 2,4 oettinger with Porsche upright cooling ( Willibald ) and the car was a 356 B Carrera Convertible body ( with disc brakes and the removable inner fender well to acces the spark plugs from the Fuhrmann engine ). Original the engine used 40mm Solex on medium tall runners and they where a thight fit. Now the engine runs a modified CIS with 3 way catalyc converter (still some 150 HP ). Servicing is a bit iky but the 4 electrode sparkplugs need only 30 000 km service interval. Thats far more then the clutch will withstand. Engine was put in to drive the car while the original engine will be rebuilt. ( This was some 10 years ago and still the original engine is in the boxes, well the case is dead and the crank is splittet too thats some 20 000 $ parts ). Inbetween the original trany was removed and replaced by a late SC trany ( Cheaper if it wears out ). Last time we where thinking about geting a modified type 1 trany with overal longer gears and LSD. Someone in the US sales them. Flywheel was modified from a 411/412 unit and the 356 TOB was replaced by a 911/914 unit. Starter is a Volkswagen but we had to mix Porsche parts in as the VW unit would have hit the floor pan with the selenoid. Grüsse |
