356 B rear brakes, help?

Guys, I am installing a complete set of 356 B rear brakes (finned drums) onto a show car. I purchased them as a set with the backing plates, shoes, drums, etc from a Porsche supplier. When sitting on my bench the drum sits right on the backing plate for a perfect match up. Yet, when I put he bearing cap holder on and bolt it into place the drum sits about 1/4 inch from the backing plate? Is the space between drum and backing plate supposed to be this wide. I can't figure it out because if I just lay the bearing cover on the backing plate and them lay the drum over it on my work bench the drum just will not fit all the way to the backing plate. Do I have some mixed parts? This is driving me nuts!

Update,,someone thinks there is an early and a late bearing cap and this could be the issue. Anyone know for sure? Maybe I have the incorrect cap????
