How to identify 356

Ladies and Gentlemen,

A colleague of mine recently came into possession of a 356, but he doesn't know what it is.

Where are the critical numbers located to identify the car? I know where they are on a 911, but have no idea where you find things like the chassis number, engine number, trans number or other numbers deemed relevant.

Could anyone post a picture of the location of each number to help him find them?

Many thanks in advance, I will get some pics of the car and put them up here and steer him toward the 356 registry to log it in.

Thanks!

Inside driver's door jam, you'll find the chassis/serial/vin number and paint code. On the engine (3rd piece) you'll find its number, and on the transmission there is a number also. Also, the last couple of digits should be stamped into various parts, like the latch mechanisim on the engine lid.

Lots of good info at: http://www.356registry.org/Tech/index.html and I'll recommend at least getting the digest version of 356talk - http://www.356registry.org/356talk/join_or_leave.html
