Question "Whiskers"

A friend of mine has a 1960 356 coupe. He discovered some iron whiskers on the oil drain magnetic plug. Where did it come from? The main bearings are babbit or bronze not sure what metal used on the connecting rod bearings or cam shaft bearings.

What is your best guess? He is planning to drop the engine and have it checked out by a local 356 shop.

Thanks for your help.

iron...or steel? Both will stick to the magnet.
Crankshaft will do that. It gets hot, bearings start to dig in...one shaving becomes 2 becomes 4...becomes 8...see..?
All in a few seconds... .but, the engines are TOUGH, may be no big deal at all.
Roll the Dice.
