Badge or no badge?

My car came with no 911 SC badge on the back. I wanna put one on, but was just wondering what your thoughts are. Also is the original badge black? I like the clean look, but I like original too.

I don't know why this is in the 356 forum, but...

I personally love the clean look; the badge can interfear with the smooth, clean lines of a Porsche's back end.

I heard de-badging originally started in Europe, but I'm not sure what the motivation was. I think one of prestige.

I've de-badged my own car; the reason? In a world where car-culture has a "movement" towards visually bumping your car up the food chain (eg. turbo-look, etc), I wanted to go in the opposite direction. In other words, "I don't care if you know what's under the hood; I bought the car for me, not you". Of course, I recently contradicted myself, by getting personalized plates that state what IS under the hood. A non-car friend of mine asked me why I had 2POINT8, and not 5POINT0(as in a mustang) on my plates on my VW. I didn't bother explaining it to him.

I think you should just go with what appeals to you. Modifying a car is a very personal thing, that expresses your character and approach to car ownership. Don't be too concearned about what everyone else thinks.

Enjoy and nice car BTW.

das908kind - just what (out of curiosity, not trying to start a flame war, rice war, etc) do you think about the M-491 cars, aka the Turbo Look Carreras from '84-89? Basically, take a 930, and swap the engine out for the normal 3.2L engine. Under 700 were made.

italcarguy,

car looks nice and clean without it, and would look nice and original with it. it's completely up to you. You might want to consider once you put a badge on it you will have holes in that perfect decklid.

also, your reflector is not the correct one for an SC. the PORSCHE should be bigger letters and span the entire reflector (not sure if you care) IMHO I prefer this reflector, but again.....your the boss.

p.s. anyway you cut it your p-car is looking smooth!

First off, I LOVE turbos and think the flairs, wing and wheels give it a powerfull stance on the road - would I won't the body with out the Turbo in it? Personally, no; especially when you consider the mark-up in price.

It could be argued that the M-491 package offers more performance benefits, but my question then would be - are the parts associated with the turbo, that are included in the M-491 package, necessary in a car with a "stock" 3.2?

I love the look of the narrow body, and think the lighter, narrower Carrera with a 3.2 is a stellar car in its own right. Infact, some might say the 3.2, given the right roads, is a better car then a turbo. If you want more rubber, throw some bigger wheels on it, like many do, and call it a day.

Also, I trust the engineers at Porsche more then my own desire for bigger and more. I believe they designed all Porsches, the 3.2 included, as a complete package, and the "look" options are for those that don't want the extra power or can't afford it, but want the esthetic appeal. Like I said though, I like the 3.2 look.

As has been quoted by others before me, "IFEN the Porsche gods wanted us to have (insert tech item) they would have given it to us."

Of course, I'm opening a big can of worms, regarding modifying and hot-roding, etc (which I am a big fan of, btw), so, to each his own and what makes him happy. Cars are an art form and should express the owners world vision as well as opinion.

Hey, Anthony

I like the badge left on the different models because they can look so simular and hard to tell apart. I want people to know it's an SC with out having to ask.
Plus IMO the deck lid looks kinda bare with out one, but not bad.

I think it would have come in black on your white car.
Maybe a stick on is available??
