912 oil cooler in 356 motor, possible?

hello I was thinking to upgrade my 56 engine with a 912 oil cooler .
The reason is that it will generate more heat than the stock engine : I will change the cam with one wilder than stock and use dual weber carbs with harder valve springs .
Do you guys think the 912 cooler fits the old 1956 case ?
thanks

Should fit the engine perfectly as far as I know.
56' engine is a 616 engine with 3-piece case right?
If so then its a direct swap. I use 912 oil coolers on all my VW's too.
I think the new aluminum cooler from NLA is the best that's out there, but it costs a little more.

Mago, you can retrofit a 912 cooler BUT the 912 coolers have 8mm threads. Your case is drilled for 6mm. 356 cases thru @ 63 all had 6mm studs on the coolers. Somewhere in 63 Porsche changed the cooler type & went with large 8mm studs on them. You can drill out your case holes on your 56 to 8mm to make it work but you can't go back to OE 6mm (don't know why you would want to) without reweld/redrill etc. Chances are your engine has already been "adapted", which replacing the 6mm cooler with the 8 was common practice on rebuilds. Measure & see what you have.
Also if you use the real late syle 912 with the soft mount "tang" make sure you have the soft mount O ring and washer for the case.
Bob is right on with the NLA model. Good luck,
George
