There's lots of speedster replicas on ebay. Intermechannica may be the best, since they've used 911/912 bases to make a replica. Most of the others are body kits on a VW pan.

Honestly you can get a *fantastic* driver C or SC coupe for the price of a replica, and it would at least not be a replica and would increase in value.

From what I understand, Intermechannica "shoots" it's fiberglass on which results in uneven thickess, and this may lead to future cracking and more weight with less strength.

I think the Beck cars are actually from Brazil where they hand lay the fiberglass, making it stronger and lighter. Also the car frame is moly tube steel and not a VW pan, so it's the correct width and not as narrow.

I'm not sure if there is much of a difference in resale prices of replicas. Insurance can be a deal buster for some. Can't drive it to work or for business or for errands - joy riding only.

Minkoff,
If you send me the chassis number I can tell you exactly what went into it originally, if it was built here or sold as a kit, etc...
RE: insurance. If you don't drive a lot then Hagerty or Grundy are perfect. I pay under $800 a year for both my personal spyder and speedster replicas. I have several customers that have had good luck with their "standard" carriers without any restrictions too.
