Hi bjornvw, for 1962 and 1963 only, Porsche used the 60, S and 90 badges to designate their 356 model range. The S was the 75hp model. You should be able to get more information from the engine and chassis number and also check with the 356 Registry. Hope this helps.

Go to www.356a.com and plug in the engine number - its on the generator stand. It will tell you what the engine left the factory as (who knows what a rebuild did) and what cars it would've been used in.

The engine looks like a super 90--Solex carbs and gray fan shroud. I believe the super 90 engines were numbered 80xxx

If it is as you say, all matching numbers, and nothing has been changed, then as an "S" it is the 75hp model. You would need the cars COA from Porsche to verify how the car was specced new. As a 63 model, if it was a Super 90 then instead of an "S" there would be a "90".

ok am just back from my dads garage and took a look at the engine again.
the motor nr is 704603 so its a 75hp . so the engine is original to the car. A lot of people here and on other porsche forums said that the carbs are solex so like the super 90. If you see the engine then the connection from the carbs and carbs itself look still pretty clean compared to the rest of the engine. so the only possibility is that they put a set of original Super 90 carbs on 75hp engine from my dads car. |
