Removing reverse switch for engine drop
Hi,
I've got a '63 356B and I'm dropping the engine/trans. Was wondering how to remove the reverse-switch wires? I'm not sure if I have to remove the switch itself or if I can pull the wires out? (I could remove the wires/connectors in my '77 911) Any help would be great--thanks. |
Not sure about the trans removal, but when I pull the engine on my '65 C its just fuel line, regulator (since its mounted to the fw), and the 4 bolts.

Thanks--which four bolts separate the trans from the engine? It looks like there are quite a few bolts on the housing?

Upper and lower corners, only ones on the firewall in the engine compartment. Removing is usually easy, getting them back on can be tricky. You will either need a helper, or use something like a hose clamp or welded on bit of nail, etc. to keep the head from turning as you tighten.
Most of the proceedures for the 356 are the same as the VW bug. I can't live without my copy of John Muir's "Idiots guide to keeping your VW alive forever". I use Elfrinks manual or Ken Balls "Porsche 356 A B C" for specs and numbers, but Muir's book for the what and how, |
Wow--I have that Muir book! (I just bought the 356, and am a rookie, although It's gotta be easier than my '77) What a great surprise!

Just took a closer look at the engine thing--it's so easy it's stupid. The backup wires popped out no problem.

Don't forget the accelerator rod, tach cable ( id10t has a '65 so it is an electric tach which has no cable!) and if your heat is hooked up you'll need to remove the cables/rods as well.
