911 headlight bucket fits a 356?

Looks to me like the early 911 HL bucket is the same as the 356 bucket except for the mounting tab. Does it work that way?

Oh and BTW, I see no different PN's for the A vs. the B & C even though there are obvious differences on the outside. The car in question being worked on is a '57 A.

All 356 (except maybe Gmund coupes from 1949-50) use the same headlight "bucket" welded into the fender...I believe it is also the same one VW used through 1966...anyway, dispite the changes in fender profile from pre A/A to B/C, the bucket is the same...any stock 65-67 912/911 headlight, (even a 911 H4 headlight) can be used BUT you will have to get a 356 style chrome ring with the protruding "tab" at the bottom for the screw that holds it to the body (screws into hole in fender 1/2 inch below the "bucket" opening) be careful not to cross thread this screw hole....its welded to the fender & no fun to fix... 66 & older VW headlight rings may work too check it out...

Good Luck

The headlights on a '66 split window bus are the exact same as on my late '65 C coupe (58 from The End), only difference being "VW" on the glass of the bus

Thanks. I have obtained some early 911 buckets. As of this writing, many places are out of stock or talking hideous prices. This '57 is just an outlaw driver anyway.

Why do you say that? This car is pretty bad off, yet it will see service again. It's only gonna get a Macco paint job and some domestic carpet. The owner is not interested in spending a bunch of money on the car. He'd rather have a turn key than do a bunch of work. Can't say I blame him given the fact that he would be burined in the car on a comprehensive resto. He could make several thousand as it sits and he intends to stay on that side of the issue.

I'm sure he'd trade it for a nice 911 driver with AC. I would.

Hi Milt,

Are you looking for a secondhand bucket that's OK to use with a bit of work (356) or are you seeking a new 356 bucket?

Sounds extreme, but I have a few used ones you could choose from and I could post over for you.

How much is your guy prepared to pay to get a bucket? If you're desperate and can't find one in US, I can send you some pics of what I have. Post cost would depend on how I send and what weight, but I'm happy to help if I can.

Cheers,
Lisa
