Wheels for a '64 356C & battery question

Do anyone know of a source for chrome wheels for a 64? Or how about a GOOD chrome shop that will plate my orig steel wheels?

Also can any one recommend a good 6 volt orig size battery (not Optima).

One last thing - whats the most complete repair manual out there?

Thanks
Jack

Optima is best 6v battery you'll find, otherwise the ones my local Autozone stock are OK... I guess... they don't get bought a lot, so they tend to sit... last one I bought (few years ago) I had to go back with it 3 times - all 4 6v batteries that were on the shelf had been there for over a year... they simply returned those and got me a fresh one on next delivery.

Don't think '64 C wheels should be chrome, but any good plater should be able to do it for you. Maybe consider picking up a set of mis-matched steel wheels and keeping your originals original.

As to repair manuals, the Pellow books are of course golden, but Elfrinks covers things besides the engine. I like Ken Ball's "Porsche 356 A B C" and can't live without my copy of John Muir's "idiots guide to keepign your vw alive forever". I use Muir's book for the what and how, the Elfrinks and Ken Ball's book for specs and numbers (torque, timing, etc)

For wheels try to find Bolton wheels in California, they have done many 356 wheels over the years.

I agree on the books, also you can find a lot more info here:

Join the "talk list", and you can post questions there.

Technical and Restoration Guide. a compilation by many of the experts in the field. Mostly the old guys in the 356 Registry. It has anything and everything you'll ever need to know.

You have many options for wheels. Replate what you have, buy repro's from VW supplier about $70 /wheel , or contact Brad at NLA parts and exchange yours for fresh chromed wheels, or get some nice billet wheels $400+/wheel, or the Techno magnesium wheels-very light weight but very$. Jim

Can't buy repros for a C from a VW supplier. Those will be the "wide-5" bolt pattern for drum brakes. C cars have discs, and take the "narrow-5" wheels. Very early Fuchs from a 911 also fit.

Gotta get those high-end custom wheels, or clean up a set of originals.
