356A starter mounting questions
We installed the engine this weekend in my 59 356 A. I have some questions reguarding the starter. On the starter solenoid, there are three terminals. Looking from the rear of the starter, there is a spade terminal on the left, a larger threaded terminal in the center, and a spade terminal on the right. My problem is that when the starter is mounted, the spade terminal on the right is touching the floor sheet metal on the car. There is zero clearance in this area. Does any one know which terminal the small wire from the ignition switch goes on? I hope it is the terminal to the left, and that the terminal that is touching on the bottom of the car is the same as ground. The main center terminal on the solenoid is also very close to the floor metal. I know there is prbably supposed to be a boot on it. Any tricks to tightening up this connection. The wire is the one from the battery and is very stiff. It dosent look like there will be any room to get a wrench on the nut to tighten it up. Does this wire need to be made up before the starter is in its final position? I will try and shoot some pictures from the underside of the car. I dont know if this starter is the origional type used on the car, and that might be the problem. Seems like some pictures I have seen have a different looking soleniod. Anybody have any experiance with this??

On my 65 C , either small terminal works... I have a wire on the "spare" one going up into my engine compartment so I can trigger the starter by jumping the wire to the voltage regulator...
