Just for giggles, I asked the seller to post a photo of the engine serial number. You know, to prove originality like he did for the trans.

I did not get the impression that the seller of this car was trying to Scam anyone, I don't think that he really knew or knows anything about Porsche's . I am saying this because that car is in good shape and would make a nice project for someone to finish (Granted they put an appropriate engine it). It would be nice for an enthusiast to find this car and put it right, I just think the word Scam is pretty strong here.

Well there seems to be some history on this car. It's being discussed on the 356 talk list. It's been offered up a few times before in different parts of the coutry...per the list.

The ad makes NO mention of the VW power plant and only gives a dark pic...the obvious lack of disclosure would tend to leave one thinking what ELSE is fishy?

it really sounded like ignorance rather than an attempt to scam, I have bought several 356's with VW engines in them and I don't think any of the owners who sold them knew what they had or what engine was in them. I was just happy that the floors were solid and they weren't all rusty. I am NOT trying to defend the guy at all, but I think we should be careful before accusing someone of a potential crime.
