Rear deck lid grill

Hi, I'm looking for a 356 rear engine deck lid grill. I would like to mod it into my Super Beetle project. Instead of using a reverse louver deck lid, I think I would like the grill better.

What would be a good price for one in need of re chorming, and I not sure if the arc of the 356 will blend to my Super Beetle deck lid. I will be running a 3 liter turbo type IV, using a 911 fan.

Since I'm not fixed in my ideals and still in the mock up stage, I would like to see how it may look.

My guess is that ebay prices are around $100; new repros can be had for about the same from Stoddards, NLA. The grills are aluminum, not chromed. The cabriolet grills have a slight curve while the coupe grills are flat or close to it.

Jim, thank you, I will consider which of the two would fit better.

Who did the type 4 case modifications? The oil port mods are a great idea.

Hi, I did or better yet had it machined in the manner you see. The type one and type IV have oil pressure problems. The oil pump you see on my case is a 36mm pump, and I did not intend to have it by-passed thourgh faulty relief valving. The entire pressure relief valve has been machined away. My ideal is to have the oil come from the pump through a AN-12 line to a set of oil filters, using billet filters or a filter from a fork lift hydraulic pump (much thicker construction of the filter assembly). Through the filter to the cooler, to the regulator. The Regulator is from a RX-7 set at 80 psi.. With so much by-passing backing into the case after being filtered and cooled I feel is a good thing.

This is the filter housing I'm going to use with the dual filters

Since I removed the oil path to the cooler, the oil sender unit was apart of the casting. The diagonal piping will supply oil pressure to the to the low oil switch and a mechanical oil gage, plus oil supply to my dual turbos. I need extra oil pressure and volume due to the extra such as oil supply to the turbos, oil squirter.

That's a lot of case/oil mod work. Keep us posted.
