Electric fuel pump for 356B T6

I'm fitting a Carter fuel pump to feed the big thirsty Webers on my 1800cc '59 motor in my B T6. Quick question: if I remove the existing manual fuel pump and operational rod from the block (I would of course fit a blanking plate) would I be doing anything monumentally bad to the engine, such like the ops rod has a secondary purpose or something, or is this AOK.

No problem at all. Be sure to seal the blanking plate to the case or you will have an annoying oil leak.

I've installed Webers on 356 and 912 engines for years and never had a fuel supply problem with the stock pump.

How do u route the epump? return line to the tank ala 911, or, it has its own recirc line, or it just regulates itself?

I believe going electric, considering the OEM is 50 years old, is preventive maintenance or not?

What about the power source and location of the pump?

For you, single in single out electric fuel pump. IIRC the carter pump is the small one? 4 inches long 1.25 inches dia? Check dead head pressure for the needle and seat. I usually put them under pedal board. Wire to terminal 15 at ignition switch. Inline fuse it.

How do you control the fuel pressure after it builds up? Is there a recirc/bypass line? or the pump shuts up, or it just pumps continuosly and the carbs level/float controls it...?
