How do I remove the horn button on a 356A

It's been years since I've removed mine, but on my 356B, you had to rotate the horn button counter clockwise, and then it would lift off. I'm not sure if the 356A models worked the same.

I have an A I've been restoring, but I have no horn, so I couldn't really tell you. Check with the guys at the 356 Registry or do a search on the Registry. They're the best.

There are two 5mm holes on the backside of the wheel hub. The factory says to us a long 4mm punch and drive the horn button out of the steering wheel recess. But usually with age the rim of the horn button corrodes to the steering wheel recess and employing this technique usually ends up with two punched holes through the plastic button.
I use a snapon small puller set. This has a small slide hammer with a right angle attachment. I slide the right angle attachment (with masking tape on it to prevent scratches) under the chrome rim of the horn button assembly (pressing the plastic down) and very gently use the slide hammer tapping (pulling upwards) all around the circumference of the chrome rim. It will take a little time but with no damage to the horn button.

I have a Convertible D with original horn button. Be careful because the corrosion as described is a bear. Soak in in a good penetrating oil such as Kroil for several days and then search the 356 registry site - Bruce Baker has a home made tool and Ab Tetieman ? sells one for $$. Very easy to trash the chrome ring if your not careful.

I use a large suction cup on the horn button like from the base of a Garmin GPS mount. That will usually hold well enough to pull the horn button out.
