356 Engine identification I am looking at a 356 that does not have it's original engine. Stamped on the case above the pulley is KD*P*780549. I am assuming this is a 63 1600S. Do the letters mean anything. Should there be other numbers apart from case match numbers. This is all the owner has sent me. Any info would be appreciated 986RON |

KD means that it was serviced at the factory at some point in time. There should be another number on the top of the case - where the two halves meet - that might confirm whether it is a super or something else. 356 Registry has lots of information on this topic. If you aren't already a member, you should consider joining. |

KD stands for 'Kundendienst'. It indicates a factory replacement case; non matching numbers but the next closest thing :) Good luck with the purchase! |
