Drum Skins for a Wide 5 conversion ?
Can someone explain how everything mounts up when doing a conversion from 4 lug (disc brakes) to "wide 5"/ 5x205mm wheels? Pictures would be even better. I am confused how the aluminum drum skins interact with the stock 4 lug/disc set up.. how do they mount togther etc? In particular I'm referring to the Beck pieces that look like original speedster/spyder equipment where the original 4 lugs do not show. Maybe I'm confused and Beck's do not retain their standard 4 lug set up - but that's the impression you get from their website. Any other vender sell the pieces needed to do this? Thanks in advance!

What 4 lug wheels are you talking about? Stock 356 up to 64 have 5 lugs and most wide 5 wheels will fit with different wheel studs.

Sorry for confusing the matter... I WANT to use the original 5 lug steelies that the 356 and spyders used, the original wide five wheels.
The problem is that my car will have stock 4 lug VW brakes (when I get the car), like the kits cars usually do. That's why I want to convert to wide 5. |

Have done that conversion before. The rear is straight bolt on for A brakes (drums and backing plates) onto the vw rear splines. the front I used A brakes again (drums and backing plates) but I designed special collar type shims and employed the vw front wheel bearings (for the four bolt wheels). These were smaller than the porsche wheel bearings and I estimated a loss of 30% in strength. See chuck and maybe he can give you the plans for the machined items. Because of beck's design you have to stick with the 4.5" wide wheels for the front.
