Group Buy - magnesium tecnomagnesio wheels

Hi is there any interest from forum members to purchase a set of magnesium wheels based around the tecnomagnesio style wheel.

The pictured wheel is magnesium, gravity cast. Though forged billet (magnesium) machined is possible though more expensive. However this would open up a greater range of width offset possibilities.

Currently I am in discussion with a foundry who can/have produced these wheels (5 x 205 PCD) though have asked them to provide costs for modified centre and PCD to suit also 356 C or other 356 running disc brakes.

Weight of the (pictured) 'wide 5' tecnomagnesio wheel is 3.5kg or 7.6lbs. Size is 15 x 5.5inch. Offset measured form the inside rim edge to the mounting face is 157mm.

If a version made to suit 356C and early 911/912 it would weigh a little more than the wide 5 version as there is a greater surface area - though I imagine still less than 4kg per wheel.

Post ideas on width offsets. However if the group buy was to go ahead we would rationalise the order to one wheel option only due to cost issues.

Please email interest to: michel@iinet.net.au

attached is an image of the tecno wheel for reference.

cheers

Michel

Thanks Michel

What ever happened with this? I would be interested in a set for a 911 15x6/7.

hi still plodding along with the process...still waiting on issues from the foundry as before....additionally had tried to understand form all re: consensus as to best way to structure the group buy...no response form anyone?

Ultimately once logistics sorted people will have to commit in some meaningful way...hoping that I can supply good news for all for early xmas pressies.

Hi group purchase of the 356 wheel to suit A & B is feasible at $495.00USD each per wheel + local shipping and taxes as applicable.

Need at least 50 committed individuals to make it work as the foundry have stated I need to order 600 units in total - a not insubstantial order and far in excess of liklely interest. Still please forward interest.

Wheels to suit 356 C and 911 are still in discussion though costs to design engineer and make patterns moulds maky be too prohibitive based on likley numbers. Have though been reviewing with foundry potentisal to make generic cast machined centres that could be welded riveted radially to aluminum rims providing flexibility.

Either way poses technical and cost issues.

cheers
