64 coupe value?
Got a line on a 64 coupe, project car.
Original engine apart, has 912 engine with it but not installed. From the description and quick peek, body looks pretty decent, no rust seen over headlights or at rear of fenders, but could have been bondo'd years ago. Owner said it is complete. What would this be worth? Anybody? |

Impossible to say for certain without a thorough inspection. A few photos at the least would let one speculate idly. Contrary to popular wisdom, there are still 356's out there so far gone as to be not worth saving, and never underestimate how much evil could be hidden by a skim of bondo. But assuming normal (not excessive) rust, and normal (not excessive) body damage, between 15 and 20K seems to me about the range for C coupe projects.

It depends on what you're looking for... I believe that nowadays it is much better to buy car that "is already done" and - at least - looks & drives "good". A "good" 64C should be in the $50K~60ish range, and a "great" 64C should be in the $120K. So, you can take it from here, depending on what you're looking at. As mentioned above, pictures would help to help you...

I agree with Miguel, no such thing as a cheap Porsche anymore. If you look at a project have to factor in costs such as engine, trans, brakes, paint, interior, on top of
rust repair. Years ago heard the bottom 6" of a 356 can run you $6000 easy. When Back in the 1970's I drove them as my daily and only driver we could find them for $3-4k in very nice shape (even 4-cams), (even race cars) (even special ones). Anyway, be careful. My friend Dan always said buy the best you could afford. Also factor in the fun factor of being able to drive a nice fun car right away. My last 912 Targa sat on jack stands for 4 years and it was supposed to be a driver!!! Good luck and take your time, there are a lot of frogs out there. Here's one of my last ones before the $$ became $$$$$$$$ No, she is gone, back to Europe. Just too nice for me to drive, fresh and excellent Spencer engine, fresh tranny from Jim @Easy, I converted to disc brakes, on and on. Ron in Maryland with two sons in college. ![]() |
