Gmund 050, imported out of Sweden in the '80s
I wanted to make a fine art painting of Gmund SN 356/2-050, which I saw at Art Center College at a concours. I read the current owner, Jeff Zwart, the famous photographer and film director, bought it from Jim Barrington, who acquired it “in the late 80′s with the help of a German friend who located the car in Sweden. It was ‘reputed’, but not validated, to have run in the Swedish Midnight Sun Rally in the early 50′s.” The car was originally imported by a truck firm Scania Vabus,.Once imported to the U.S. by the Barrington family, it was raced by them. At one time, the family owned no less than five Gmund coupes! I was wondering if any who knows the Swedish scene back in the '80s knows what the car was priced at in Sweden at that time it was sold to Jim Barrington and how the German collector had gotten wind of its existence? Not concerned with today’s value, at all this is a purely historical question dealing only with the ‘80s.
