Help is it possible I have been told that it is? I want to get my Porsche 356 1954 Pre-A on the road for this show in Brighton in the UK next year. 356 International. I have some friends that have a 52 another 54 and other 356’s.
We all want to get them running to turn up. My car has not been on the road for 30 years. The question. To save time can I use VW brakes for my car? As I could get the whole system for the car for a few hundred quid £$. Can I use a single port say 1200 VW engine just to get it going as the original engine does need work. As I need to get a number of parts for the Original 1500. The gearbox can it run ok with a VW engine. If so what type? The idea, before some purists get all hot under the collar is that I can sort out the Porsche stuff out at a later date and be able to source the parts in time. But for now I would like to get it all going using VW stuff. Ideas on a post card to……………….. mark@classic912.co.uk I hope some one out their thinks I am not mad and can help. I may even see you at the show !! If you help. Mark ![]() |

Hello
1.) VW brake system will fit ( hydraulic not the cablesystem ). But you shouldn´t mix the parts from both systems. Not sure on the emergencybrake cable end. You also can shop a VW bug 5lug high performance brake system with discs on front. 2.) Any type 1 engine can be swaped in. Prefered a single Port 1500/44 HP as this engine is much lifier and reves better. Also the 1300/1600 dual port engines are more "suitable" for a Porsche and the 1600cc dual port with some addditonal tweaking pushes 65 HP on the crank. However old VW engines without the "freshair" heaterboxes are simpler to adopt. 3.) The 356 trany will have no problem with a VW engine. More torque and engine power will force more waer on the long run. But all depends finally on your driving style. Grüsse |
