Hello Guys:
I've strayed from the 911 forum as the subject crosses model boundaries. The CA dmv started taking deposits as of 1 January of this year. A total of 7,500 deposits (each plate) must be received by 1 January 2015 for it to go into production. CA Heritage Plate order count: 1) Black on Gold (1956 thru 1962) 1 July = 1,097 1 Aug = 1,213 1 Sept = 1,275 1 Oct = 1,372 2) Gold on Black (1963 thru 1969) 1 July = 3,674 1 Aug = 4,224 1 Sept = 4,474 1 Oct = 4,769 We know that Heritage plates are not exact reproductions of the original plate. For example, the Heritage plates are, by law, reflectorized. That being said, I plug on in getting the word out. The order form is available at dmv.ca.gov/Heritage Plate/Apply Here. The plate will cost an extra $40/year. Keep on getting the word out. Al |

Personally I don't like this idea... it won't be so cool when the PT Cruiser to your right, and the Honda Civic to your left also have Heritage plates.
From DMV website, "Legacy License plates can be ordered for any year model automobile, commercial vehicle, motorcycle, or trailer." |

also they are not the same plate , they "look" like an old plate but are aluminum and I believe are reflective too.....
They do not mention that on the website.. but it will look nice on that Fiberglass Speedster ![]()

One of the makers of reflective film (I think it was 3M) got the state legislature to order all plates to be covered with their reflective film. Some campaign donations and it was a done deal. how a reflective film is supposed to enhance safety is beyond me, the cars by law already have bright reflective tail lights, I suppose a little cash buys a lot of poor legislation.
this legislation will reduce the number of folks willing to buy these new "retro" plates. The vendor even tried to get a law passed a while ago that would require new plates be issued every few years (the reflective film does wear out you know) the cost would be paid by each car owner when they receive their new plates. Nothing like corruption at the state level! |
