Was the Porsche 356 a budget sportscar when it was still new ?
Was it an entry level, affordable car or a luxury sportscar ? Did it compete with Ferrari ?

The coupes and cabriolets cost as much as a Cadillac, the Speedsters, when they came out, were about $1000 cheaper.

The 356 never competed with Ferrari. My recollection is the 356 was above the Alfa's, MG's, Triumph's and many Austin Healy models. On the track the 356 would run with then Jag XK models.
Back in the day it was a nimble and quick and light fun precision machine, like nothing else. It was said many pilots favored the early 356 model. |

Dad paid $3750 OTD with a dealer installed Artic Kar AC unit for a '65 C coupe in July of '65.
