Replacing carpet/floor mat
 

I am replacing the carpet and floor mat in my 64 356c. Is there any guide on the use of glue to hold the carpet in place. Type of glue, how much and where to use it?

When I pulled up the old floor mat there was a pad like material under it. Should I replace this also (it looks pretty bad)? If so what is it and where do I get a replacement. How do I install it.

I am not sure about the glue for the carpets.

I do however know about the material underneathe the carpet.
This is a sound deadening material that is tared to the chassis this is available through Stoddard and Tweeks and probably many more suppliers.
If you want to replace it you first have to remove it. This is no easy task! I found that dry ice applied to it for a short time an then scrped off with a paint scraper(I use a 2inch one) works quite well. This is probably the fastest way but it is still very time consuming.
I would suggest that if the material is still in fairly good shape to leave it or if it is only bad on the floor pan area and will leave the new carpet looking uneven if not replaced to only replace these parts. I believe that this material has to be glued down as well as the carpets.

The stuff is a bit noxious, but it dries really, really, really fast, and holds incredibly well (if you have to remove the carpet, the glue will make the carpet tear - it's that strong).
