Convertible D Carreras-SN? Why did they exist?

In 356 Registry magazine July/Aug. 2004 I came across one line referring to two Convertible D Carreras. It has no information other than they had twin grille deck lids and might have been Convertible D Carrera GS models. This was in a review of the first edition of the book entitled [I]Porsche Speedster Typ 540 (Maybe the info was changed in later editions)but does anybody know the SN of these cars and why only two were made? Are they worth about 3 or 4 times the price of a regular Convertible D?

from the convertible D registry:

"Engines: out of the 4,145 Speedsters built, 151 were originally equipped with four-cam Carrera engines. Only 2 Convertible Ds were equipped with four-cam engines out of 1,330 built. Either the 1600 Normal "Damen" (Type 616/1) or the 1600 Super (Type 616/2) engines were typically placed in the Convertible D. "

As I'm aware...the 2 Convertible Ds are unclaimed.

This red car is a Roadster, not a Convertible D.

Heinrich's book lists these as chassis numbers 86124 and 86125. He also notes 2 roadsters with 4 cams, and another as a "GS" but apparently with a S90.

These vins are correct. only 2 convertible Ds.
There are unaccounted for still today.

86124 Engine 92001 692/1 1500GS (4-Cam) Colour Aetna Blue(740) Original special color!

One of only two 4-Cam Conv. Ds made. Do they still exist? Feb. '08

86125 Engine 93108 692/2 1600GS (4-Cam) Light Gray (code: C) Original special color!

I thought I had one back in the day. I had 8XX30 but it was missing a motor and the person I bought it from had 3 4 cam motors beside it.

Got excited for a few days.

Maybe one of those missing two is in a cave in Cuba. I remember hearing long ago that a Carrera (Speedster) was stashed in a cave for safekeeping just as Castro took over. Thinking, of course, that his takeover would be a passing thing but we all know how that worked out.

Considering Cuba's climate a Convertible D would make sense. But if any of the above is true it would no doubt be reduced to a pile of rust by this time.

The one in Cuba is a coupe, but at least it's a four cam

On this site, they discuss the four cam in Cubra. Some fellow American photographed it. The owner of the car has three four cam engines, probably worth enough here to buy an oceanside house in Cuba
