Mazda Miata seats in a 69 - 73 body?

Has anyone done this and if so, what modifications to the seats were necessary? Did you modify the seats to use the Porsche sliders, or were you able to use the Mazda sliders? What did you do about seat belt attachment points? Thanks for any comments or suggestions!

I would suggest not to go that route. A 69 thru 73 is a highly desirable longhood. Their are mods which are more acceptable/tasteful for these cars. A 3.6 engine in an early car, RSR style bodywork/interior for example. Usually these mods are using Porsche parts albeit from different years. The exception would be a track car which may sport a nice set of race seats. Your basically putting seats from a 5000 car into something which properly restored is worth well over 6 figures.

Thanks for taking the time to reply. Actually, they would be going into a 912 temporarily while I'm having the original seats restored.

I haven’t swapped seats in a 911 before, but recently put a set of 240Z seats in my dad’s Volvo P1800 and it was pretty straightforward. I was able to unbolt the sliders from the stock seats and use some thick steel bar, maybe 3/8” or thicker, around 2” wide and a couple of feet in length and this allowed me to make adapters for the new seats to the stock sliders
since they have different mounting points. Your dimensions will probably vary, but I think this is a pretty common method. Best to use high grade hardware for mounting everything,
Measure twice and drill holes once. Others will likely comment on the safety of this method, all concerns are probably valid.

Can’t help you with the seat belts, but I would think stock seatbelts could still be used?

Good luck!
