H4 LED head light options
Good morning everyone,
I'm looking to upgrade my headlights to some LED. I know that audette makes some plug & play LED H4's. Anyone else? Thanks David |

I went with the Flat6 LEDs and have been very happy on my 82SC. Plug n Play, many options, great look IMO. Flat6illumination

David -- you garage shows you have a 914 (which I believe uses drop-in 7.5" headlight inserts) and not a 911 (which has 911-specific h4 options) -- are you looking for drop in round h4s or 911 specific h4 assemblies?

Sorry, my garage is not up to date because my 74 911 has not been delivered yet. Hopefully Monday

I installed a set of fluted H4s from Carmagic (rothaus here on Pelican) on my '87. There is a thread or two about the set up. Light output is far and away superior to the H5s that were on the car, both in normal driving and in hi-beam mode. Fantastic, really. I like them because they look like stock H4s. Englebert is very responsive and easy to work with also, and his prices are reasonable (better than some of those mentioned above).

I just installed LED headlights from Engelbert. Great guy to deal with; quick to ship. Install went well and wasn't too difficult. I opted to use the headlights as DRLs with the extra connection provided.
Here's a few pictures. The lamp holder needs to be adjusted a bit to fit the rear of the lamp since it's a bit wider than the standard bulb. The instructions showed a way to bend the back out without separating the holder from the attachment frame but I decided to remove the holder and clean everything up. The back of the holder was bent into shape using channel locks. I used a caliper to measure the position of the adjusting screws when put back together. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

The tension spring support needs to be bent out a bit to clear the rear of the lamp. There was very little room between the lamp and spring but everything fit ok.
Connecting the lamp for DRL was very easy as the running light wire runs through the headlight bucket. I made a short pigtail to connect the lamp to the running lights. Simply pull the running light wire from its connector, install the pigtail, then connect to the lamp. Very simple. Haven't had time to drive it in the dark to assess the performance. Hopefully will do that in the next week or 2. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
