Curious - for the seller's acknowledged selling price of $10,900 -- I'm surprised that
While people are always writing about the value of "Very Clean" S's being well north of $20K, everyone turns up their noses at a car which needs some work at a significantly lower price. Considering that taking our 911's apart and putting them back together is a hobby of so many 911 owners, I just figured that this car would sell. I'm just curious what other people thought.

My thoughts:
"True 1970 Porsche 911S, 5 speed, Title is from 1973!! " (?) "48,000 miles" . . .looks more like 248,000. If it had sportseats, bidders would have been all over it. edit: "Vehicle Condition : Car is 33 years old and if you do not know what that means, please do not bid. We had one guy even complain that the automatic belt on a 31 year old car would not retract all the way." Now THAT doesn't say anything good about the car or the potential transaction.

"The only little rust we could find is where the battery sits"- from the auction copy. Uh, how about the other battery? Anyway, this could be a location thing. Hawaii is notorious for cars rusting, perhaps Florida is as well? Salt air thing? Still, if I lived where I could go peek at this car, I would. And yes, it is the old "condition, condition, condition" thing... condition is everything.

You could easily spend more than $20k getting this car in shape. I had $24k in retoration receipts alone - not counting the price of the base car:
http://www.boxstar.net/Shistory.htm Far too much risk in this ebay car - too many wierd stories. This one scares me too, but at least looks like a better car. Why don't these sellers put out more info???

That car is a nightmare waiting to happen. Judging by the condition of the suspension bits you can see, I'll be you a 6-pack of beer that it's going to need some serious rust repair. And those are some of the most useless pix I've seen in a while.

I was considering the turquoise car, ('70 911S), just impossible to judge w/o a physical inspection and drive. The seller, Harald, seems like a stand-up guy from my phone conversation w/ him and his posts on this board, that car could be a diamond in the rough or a $$ toilet. MarkP is right, for what it costs to restore it correctly, you are in the price range of pretty nice early S's.
A fellow on the earlySregistry board recently sold a gorgeous '71 911S w/ 62k miles for ~$20Gs. It sold faster than a runaway truck on a mountain road, needless to say.

I might go and look at this car. I've been looking for a 2.2S coupe project and this one is right up the street.

I have aquired a new hobby. Ever week I go to the bank and take about a few hundred dollars. Then I come home and put it in the toilet and then flush. It's pretty exciting for about 25 seconds.
And after a year or so, I don't have to make excuses for why something doesn't work and worry about DMV paperwork. ![]() The front fenders were probably removed becuase of rust, but the rest of the front is good?!? |

i dont believe that car only has 48,000 miles.
it's not the just the cost of doing the restoration work, it's also the time and headaches you have during the process.. better off to spend 20K and get a nice original "S" I would leave this one alone

I suspect the e-bay is a good way to market but not sell a car like this. Buyers must contact the seller and see it in person - I bet it will sell in the next few weeks to some that saw it on the web.

For the right individual, with lots of time, patience and spare parts, this could be a great project car. Or another Tom Hanks/Shelly Long movie.
