Post Fresh Air Blower

Am unable to figure out why my blower motor isn't working, would like to sort this out prior to the cold weather so i have some resemblence to a front windscreen defogger..
have changed the fuse, shich is fine...traced the harness which appears to be in place and the adjusment arms seem fine from wathcing underneath, spose it could be the blower motor itself, where and how can I check this animal on a 70E?

Not sure if your switch is similar to the one in the later cars (SC), but a common problem spot is the sliding rheostat type switch which controls this fan. Get some electric parts/switch cleaner and spray it in the crack where the lever travels while you move it back and forth.

Worth a try if yours is the same.
Nick.

UNsure if yours is the same or similar to mine, but I just changed mine with a used one from Parts Heaven. Only $50 and 1 hour job at the most. The symptoms of mine were, it would sometimes come on, sometimes not, squealling when it did, then finally electrical frying inside.

Good Luck

I am thinking that may be the problem, but can't isolate the blower as thte fault, guess I should have paid attention in EE back in the day...I pulled the plug off of the blower in the luggage area, but which pin do I jump to the battery to see if the motor will work?

OK pulled the fan motor out, its in bad shape but runs when power is applied...squeaky and noisy, will need to be replaced however, cant seem to get power to the plugs that run the bloomin thing...power is across both sides of the fuse, so the wiring there is good, how do I get the control part out of the dash? It slides pretty easy and doesnt look to gross back there...

Sheesh, I am beginning to feel like a dolt, after a weekend under the dash (no easy feet at 6'3") I am still at a loss. Fixed a broken wire in the blower motor and cleaned it up, but still cannot get power to the harness that runs it.. I cannot figure out where the hot wire going in should get to the control unit, seems that there should be a hot wire running in with power and that the fan should operate once reaching the I, II, or III setting where the circuit is closed. I reckon that there is a resistor or something in there that regulates the voltage giong to the blower thus changing the speed...Still cannot figure this one out and am bummed that I may have to shell out big bucks to a shop. I have taken out the single bolt that holds the control unit to the chasis, how do I get the thing out to look for contacts? I have tugged at it but it seems pretty darn tight and I don't want to break anything.

the black wire in the motor plug gets power from a fuse. the rest of them are grounded by the sliding switch, one at a time. resistors in the motor housing regulate the speeds. don't take the switch out unless you really need to because it's a pain. the bolt you took out at the back of the switch completes the ground to the chassis. it won't work without being grounded.

Thanks for the help guys, I think I had a mixture of many problems and after sorting through most all of them am at least now dangerously better versed in the workings of the fresh air system, oh, and I did get the balsted thing to run, but only on the II setting...my guess is the controller contacts at this point. think I will need to replace the blower, it was in horrible condition, but after cleaning it up and some superglue should work for the time being...
