Burnt or melted ground wire question

Hi all,
I pulled the temp, druck pressure guage to put in the numbered template in the temp gauge and one of the brown wires (ground) that goes to the instrument lights was burnt or melted. I can get some new wire and replace it but the “burning” question is “what caused this and is it still causing a problem?

Not sure what is causing it. From the factory this circuit is not fused. Here's a good installation thread. With the fuse installed you should not damage anything else and if it blows immediately then you know you still have a problem.
