Sun visors
Anybody have experience with Sierra Madre visors? Price is right but quality,
fit, et'c? Yes, I have looked at our host's pricing and would prefer to buy here but $$ talk and there is a lot of talking. A few $ is one thing, hundreds another.

Not going to mention the vendor name here out of respect for the hosts but I snagged a set that I'm fairly impressed with for the cost. The look nearly identical to the build of the originals less the puffy bag appearance from age. I had to use my mount hardware. The ones at Sierra look almost identical to the ones I bought based on the pics and same price.

Dr. Osidak, keep in mind that SM doesn't appear to have the correct repro Targa visors for 1978-on. Just the coupes.

I thought the targa came with the same straight visors as the coupe and the CAB came with the curved visors. Is that wrong? My brother's Targa had straight visors, which is how I ended up with baggy visors and him with a nice pair of curved visors.

Before I get super flamed...... I have purchased thousands of $ of parts from our host over the past 16 years. They are my go to supplier for many reasons, including their gracious support of this forum which has saved me more thousands of $. However, unless I missed them somehow, they do not offer aftermarket/repro visors. There is NO way I am going to pay $843.00 for a pair of Genuine Porsche visors out of a sense of loyalty when I can source aftermarkets for under $200.00.
Just sayin.......

Hope you didn't take my post as "flaming" it wasn't my intention.
Btw, does your car have the straight type of visor or is it curved like a Cab visor? If you're looking for curved repros, fahgetaboudit. |

Cabmando;
I did not. But I know how sensitive folks here get about using the forum and buying elsewhere.I try like hell not to do so. Thought I would get ahead of any flaming. No, they are straight and I have sourced them.

Be careful with the visor pins. I installed a set of aftermarket visors in my targa. The pins never fit right and one on each side broke within a year. I swapped out with the original pins and no problems since (except the visors seem a little long, maybe they are supposed to be curved or something?).

As a low cost alternative, thought I'd share what I did with my Targa visors when they started to get 'baggy'...
First off, I never really liked the design, I thought they were way too big. So I took them off, and ran them thru the band saw right along the horizontal seam. There is a metal bar in there, so make sure your bandsaw can handle that. Then I covered them in alcantara. Now they are super effective, but don't block my windshield view at all. ![]() And yes my dash is covered with alcantara also - this really cleans up the car IMHO. Visors arrived and are installed.
Some thoughts: Texture is different - less pebbly Pivot arms are not as solid but adequate for how often I use the visors Fit is good and mounted easily Visors are thinner, even discounting original's puffiness Cost to door was $155 versus $843 for Genuine Porsche I am satisfied. PM if you want source I used.
