Oil temp sensor compatibility- numerical gauge
1982 SC. My oil temp gauge is the numerical style and I want to replace the temperature sensing unit in the engine. I am getting conflicting part numbers from Pelican’s catalogue and Porsche PET. I am trying to plan ahead and make an order of parts. Unfortunately, I don’t have access to the car for a while and can’t pull the gauge for more info.
What’s the best way to determine which sender is compatible? Thank you, Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |
The 82will have a chrome sensor with a 911 part number.
The early sensor is brass and has a 901 part number The numerics on the dash can be either as there was a time selling both units to install in dash with sender. Bruce |

Going through the pet it looks like the date stamps is most important
I recall a 77 had numerics and used the later sender. Bruce |
There was a posting recently about the temperature topping out different depending on the year of application

Oil temp
I know the one on the left was out of a 69 but they’re both early to go with the brass 901 part.

Bruce-
Here’s the gauge I’m trying match the sensor to. I’d pull it an look at the markings, but I won’t be with the car for a few weeks. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...8cc6362a9d.jpg Thanks for any insight. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |
We know the brass one is good for 340 so it will have to be the chrome one that should already be on an 87 930.

You want sender 901.641.632.00. That temp gauge was used from 1974-1977. I'm pretty sure none of the SCs came stock with numbers.
As a double-check, I have the same temp gauge in my 1979. In my case, I bought it aftermarket, and it also came with a 901.641.632.00 sender. It is brass. Mark |
Bruce/Mark- thanks for the responses and information. I’ll report back once the job is done.
