Post Your 10 year Porsche outlook

SO these are my plans

My tired 1982 SC almost at 190K...
I will drive it till it either smokes like crazy or till I get the funds
till then I will do interor stuff
930S steering wheel
RS door panels
Strip out the rear seats
put a semi-decent sound system
I want to change the color from the dark brown to the Porsche Red/Burgundy
Exterior paint job w/ a full strip down...dark blue or gunmetal grey
larger Fuchs 944 8" and 991 9"
oil cooler upgrade along with RUF valence and rear valence
Carrera tail
Pull some dings
fix the A/C

get a 3.6L upgrade...by this time the car will be smog exempt so I will run carbs or MFI and no cats
either a 993 or 930 brake upgrade

Rebuild my SC motor...maybe new cams since I will put carbs or MFI on it

And get a nice beck/vintage 550 spyder to put the SC motor in...maybe use my leftover SC brakes on this pocket rocket

get a crap as truck or SUV to haul them and my tools to the track

Get a nice dark blue or burgundy or the classic silver 993 carrera S (no 4S)

Upgrade the 3.6L in my SC chassis to a 3.8L
maybe add g50 short bell housing tranny
coilovers

then get a nice early 911 for a pure porsche restoration

hahaha 10 years...more like a lifetime

In the next 10 years I want to get a 930, or better. I'd also like to have a nice 993. I'm not a fan of the 996 as much as the 993. I'd also like either a 968 or a 951 as a daily driver.

82SC your plans sound almost identical to mine. 2Years ago I put on a tail, last year 16" fuchs replaced the 14s. This winter I am redoing the interior-already started. Next winter I plan a complete repaint (gunmetal or silver). I have a nice Kenwood CD player with 6" PPI seperates in the doors.

As for my 2.7, I will try to take care of it until it dies, then either do my own rebuild or go bigger.

Long term plans, one day I want another Porsche, just don't know what yet....long ways away.

Have you got a good gunmetal colour yet? email me a pic or post it here.

This winter, maybe rebuild the motor but probably just fix up the brakes. Do a bunch of small stuff like replace door stop on both the 911 and the 944, upgrade the head lights, refinish the 15" Fuchs.

Next summer, build a new garage, oops, I mean house.

The winter following is when the project really takes off. Strip body to tub, install rear 7" flares, fiberglass pieces (hood, front fenders, doors, rear valance and lid.) Paint, don't know what colour yet. Rebuild motor if not done yet, install lightweight interior with CF dash, install a roll bar or cage?

Put the whole thing back together and enjoy.

That may be a little more than a winter project.

Then, buy a 914 and build a gt6, then there's the 928S4 I want, and maybe a rebuildable 356C?

Oops, I think I need another garage

Save your money on the Beck project. I have a 79 SC and a Beck with a 2110cc motor. As the latter is only about 1200#, it blasts past my "real" Porsche until about 60 mph. Lots of fun, and uses cheap V-dub parts! However if you live in the Midwest, be prepared to deal with a 1200# paperweight for about 6 months.

Fix my current (no pun intended) electrical problem - the way things are going that should just about take 10 years.

Ruf Wheels,
930 brakes,
Factory Limited Slip

When it comes time for a rebuild, I will weigh my options. The choices are build my 3.0 or swap.

If I build, I would like to bump it up to 3.4 (Max Moritz P & C + 3.2 Crank) twin plug, Webcam 20/21 or Elgin CIS cam, SSI's. I need to research the fuel delevery aspect, but I think stock CIS should be able to handle this combo. Bruce Anderson's book mentioned a claimed 220HP for the 3.2 P & C with no other changes except reseting the fuel mixture. Adding SSI's/sport muffler, the cam and crank it should be more, maybe in the 250 neighborhood.

If I swap, I would love to find a 3.3 Turbo from a 86-89 car. I would probably stick with the 915 tranny, but freshen it up, and add some oil cooling. Turbo power and lower gears (than a 930 transaxle) should make a scary quick combination. This would probably be the less expensive way to go (in the short run), especially if I sold my 3.0 core. The problem would be finding a good used 3.3.

Tom

EDIT: Reread the part in Bruce Anderson's book, and corrected my numbers above.

I'll probably get rid of my 79 SC in a couple of years, be porscheless for a few years, and then get back into it with a 993 C4.

I am going to do a Warren on my SC:

-7"/8" or 9" x 16" Fuchs
-Airport gears
-SSI conversion
-"S" or 964 cams
-PMO or Weber carbs
-Dual outlet Dansk SS muffler or dual Supertrapps
-RUF front valance and cooler
-Fiberglass rear bumper, maybe RSR look (do not care for the RUF rear valance)
-RS door panels with manual windows (hate electric ones)
-New Bilstiens
-Tower brace
-5 point belts
-Sparco or other sport seats
-Harness bar
-Maybe stiffer torsion bars in F/R

Gotta keep up with the ricers

Sounds like a lot of stuff, but really will not mutate the car that much.

I plan to buy at least an early S coupe as a stablemate for my Targa. Maybe others depending on many factors.

Unfortunately, I have no plans or desire to purchase anything NEW from Porsche. Maybe when they are flush with cash from Cayenne sales, they will get back to the business of making true sportscars. Or maybe not.

Ten years? If I'm still around? If there is still gasoline for sale?

Here is my 10 week plans,(as far as I go);

Take '82 SC apart, do new lower studs and rings, valve job if needed, tensioners, SSIs, install rebuilt ltd. slip 915 I bought, turbo tierods, set ride-height, align and corner-balance, RUF glass bumpers, remove AC, Euro H-4s, upgrade stereo, 930S steering wheel, dead-pedal, refinish fuchs, have car repainted original color,(slate blue), all new window and sunroof/body seals. Possible rear spoiler.

Should be enough for now.

My turn...

I will get my '83 944 totally repainted. Redo the interior. A full rebuild when the current engine dies (knock on wood). Keep her for ever. My next project will be a 914. Drop some kind of american engine in it and put 911 suspension on it for a nice pocket rocket. I'll also add a 911 and maybe 928 to the stable someday.

I'll keep mine simple.
As to my current 78SC Targa:
Big Reds,
Front oil cooler,
3.6 Paxton Supercharged transplant,
airport gears w/ limited slip,
RS door panels.

As for the future - a full blown GT class 993.

As my white car is now finished, I will have 'old blue' bare metal repainted this winter, replacing old trim along the way. I would love to have a 356B or C (sunroof or cabriolet) or a 550 replica with my 2.4T MFI someday - maybe when we move to central coast California in about 10 years. Until then, I am considering a new 996 when the lease on the the Boxster S expires. I think the restyle looks much better, not fantastic, mind you. I have to admit, having gone through my white car project, I'm not eager to start another, so I will undoubtedly look for new ways to enjoy what I am fortunate enough to have now.

4) possibilities: purchase an old "near-death" 911E and proceed to beat the living crap out of it autocrossing, driver's ed events, etc. sell for parts once motor is blown. i almost did this a few years ago, but the Mercedes prevented us from doing this.

5) purchase of either Boxster S, or that new mini-boxster that is rumoured to be coming out in 4 or 5 years.

6) if money allows it, purchase of 933, or (thinking really big here) a 924 Carrera GT or Carrera GTR/GTS

10 years?? I am lucky if I can keep focus for 10 minutes!! But here is the plan, as of 1:30 today:

Round 1: (restoration time)
Sell the Miata to fund the 911 project
refinish the Fuchs and add new Dunlops
bare metal paint and loose the rust (having a hard time on the paint color)
new dash, headliner, mirror and windshield
replace old "S" trim
refinish driver side sport seat
restore Becker Grand Prix radio (I know it wont sound great but I'll be listening to the new sport muffler)
2-in, 2-out sport muffler
motor detailing

Round 2: (track time)
rebuild MFI
adjustable Konis
bigger sway bars, maybe bigger hollow torsion bars
tower brace
stiffer bushings all around (refinishing all of the suspension parts as they come off)
adjustable spring plates
lower ride height, track alignment and corner weight
set of black 15x6.5 Minilites with Hoosiers
remove rear seat and put in cage, new carpet and Willans belts

And when it is done, put it on a truck, take it to Cambria and show it off! Hope it is less than ten years though.

Paint or have my SC painted backed to original color of Sienna burgandy. Upgrade the cams, possibly PMO carbs, SSI's, 2 in 2 out muffler, freshen up the interior, use it for dedicated track,, autocross, and Sunday driver.

Purchase 78-79 930, for fun non-molested car.

Purchase a early 911 T and convert to RS replica with 3.0 or 3.2 upgrade like Randy w.

Lastly, sell my bastard Sea-Doo water craft's and purchase nice used 944,boxter, 964, or 993 for daily driver.

I keep telling my wife I'll be happy with 6 or 7 Porsche's at home.
