removing door window strips

Hi, I'm preparing my car (911 1988 Targa) for a total respray. Until now everything went really good. I worked 3 complete days and I'm almost ready. There are only 2 strips that I can't remove:

I removed the inner door panels, but can't see an opportunity to remove those strips. I'm sure someone can help me on this awesome forum!

the metal strip is just spring clipped to the top of the door. just pry it away from the door with a plastic trim removal tool (much the same as the door cards)

the rubber simply slides off of the metal trim.

Don't lose any of the spring clips. I think there are seven on each trim.

Does the glass have to be out to remove these pieces?

I’m interested in hearing more about the approach on your respray. Are you prepping and painting? Doing some of the disassembly and reassembly to moderate costs? Do example was it difficult removing Targa rear glass and trim? Will be going down that path sometime in future. Are you staying with original Polar Silver?

No. The metal strip can be carefully pried away with a plastic trim tool, or with your finger tips as in my case. If it's never been removed, likely a tool to get an edge under on the door latch side. It's not connected to the glass, just several spring clips as mentioned.

My bad for the hijack but would find your review of the few days getting your Targa ready for respray.
