How are oil lines mounted to the body...?
...On a 81' 911 SC.
I'm doing a bit of work on the car (as you do) and as it had been bothering me for some time that the oil lines were clearly not fixed properly to the car - you could see them peaking below the rocker covers. So, I thought I'd take a crack at fixing it. Ordered some new mounting hardware, etc. When I took the covers off, I see this: ![]() Other than looking a bit dirty and nasty, the most glaring issue is that there doesn't seem to be any sort of nut or provision for a speed/clip nut to mount the lines! What should I be seeing? Right now I'm thinking, weld on a nut, or perhaps use rivnuts. The car is a hot-rod project WIP. But if there is a "right way" to do this, I'd like to try that first. Thanks in advance... |

How were the rocker covers retained?
On my '75, the bottom of the rocker covers have three slotted tabs. These attach to studs that bolt into three brackets on lower side of the body. These studs and brackets serve as a point to install tube brackets to retain the oil likes. |

Oil Line Retainers
This may provided some insight to how the lines are mounted / retained:
Sheet Metal Screw Holes Stripped - Rocker Panel / Oil Line Mounts This thread has a wider view, showing the retainers installed: Finned oil lines update Good luck, Gordo

On my car, there are several holes above the rocker covers. Since I want to delete the covers, I'll need to fill and paint these holes at some point.
Curiously enough, on the other side, there are two tabs for this purpose on the lower portion on the sill. One tab missing perhaps? I see this chap KTL has achieved what I need to do. The pictures really clarify the sort of bracket that needs to be fabricated. I guess it's time to break out the welder again. Thanks for those links! Daniel |

Just for future reference the metal tabs I was looking for are called "gusset plates" (P/N: 911-501-125-00) and are available from our host:

You'll want the following part..... Part #: 911-207-303-00-OEM
I'm not sure 'where' they would go... if you no longer have the mounting points for these brackets, then you'll need them... they are welded in different locations behind the oil lines. You'll probably find those from a place like Stoddard that has more sheet metal parts available.

A late follow-up.
I've got the car in the body shop now, the gusset plates will be welded on. There's a bit of "funny business" going on with that side of the car, maybe signs of a previous accident (or a poor rust repair.) Either way, it's all being straightened out. Just as a FYI, 911-207-303-00 are the brackets for retaining the oil lines. You should also fit the spacer to wrap around the oil lines (964-207-302-00-OEM x 8) + all the other mounting h/w (tapping screws, etc.) I'm removing all the old paint off my old oil lines while I'm at it. I might leave them unpainted for a cool look - or maybe with just a clear-coat? ...And of course, the requisite back-date of oil lines around the engine area, because I'm fitting headers to the engine. |
