Help with ID'ing part

I opened the door of my '85 Carrera Cabriolet and spotted this trim part laying on the carpet near the front of the driver's seat. I picked it up, looked at it, and knew beyond a doubt that I've held it in my hands before. I knew this because I had the interior completely gutted when I replaced the carpeting, and the seats disassembled when I reupholstered them, and the part is clearly an interior trim piece. Despite my certainty that I've once removed and replaced it somewhere, the what it is and where it goes is completely baffling me now. Here's a couple pics, and any help will save what's left of my sanity.

It's the cap for the rear of the steering wheel. There are 2 of those.

No worries. 85 cab sounds nice. I have an 88 coupe and am doing a top end refresh. If I may, what color is your cab?
