Leak from gearbox shift fork plate. How to change?
 
There is a slight oil leak from this plate on bottom of transmission which I believe covers the gearbox shift forks. So if I were to replace that gasket, would I also need to change the transmission fluid? I’ll have to read up on how to do that. :confused:

Also, I couldn’t find the correct gasket on Pelican. Any ideas? http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1533343539.jpg

always loosen the fill plug 1st. always.

then drain it.

Over on Rennlist you mentioned your car has a 993 engine, but that's not a 993 gearbox. Likely the 911SC 915 gearbox. Try part number 915.303.225.00.

I think both your drain and fill plugs need a 17mm allen wrench to remove, although there is a certain size metric bolt that you can double-nut and use the bolt head to remove the plugs. I just don't remember what size that is. Check out this article:

Make sure you don't use synthetic in that gearbox. Most people use either Swepco 201 or Kendall 80W-90.

You'll need either a 19 mm socket or a 17 mm allen to drain. Open the fill first to make sure you can get it undone. Do not overtighten the plugs when reinstalling: 24 Nm / 17 ftlb is all they need.

Yes, you'll need to replace the fluid in taking care of the gasket. 915.303.225.00 as Mark notes. Be sure to clean up the two mating surfaces carefully and thoroughly, I suggest using a fresh single-edge razor. The old gasket will more than likely stick and need careful excision. Good luck!

I would simply try retorquing the nuts first if changing the fluid is not in the picture
and see if the leak goes away.

There's no pressure on that leak.
