1976 suspension pan replacement / pics

So I have gotten a lot of PMs, texts, calls, and I just wanted to say Thank you for the people that have reached out to me regarding my pup and what we have been going through. Its been the reason for my lack of updates here as I have decided to take a break on my own projects and spend some killer time with him.

With that said, part of the other reason I have not been posting as I have been bombarded with requests for work. I always told myself I did not want to do work for others as I was fearful it would not be as fun or turn into "work".

I have to say I was wrong, I have met some great people, took jobs on that were a little out of my comfort level, and it helped me grow and get some more confidence is my work.

So, I was contacted to do a full suspension refresh, torsion bar install, etc on this beautiful 1976 911. After completing the install, I was unable to torque the front arm bolts as the floor was creaking and cracking.

I called the owner immediately as I did not feel this car was safe to drive.

So, we decided to go ahead with a full suspension pan replacement and Im glad we did as you can see the extent of it as I cut it open!

I like to do some of the cutting and dirty work outside in driveway to keep dirt out of shop

after speaking with owner I explained to him there was no way of knowing where the rust stops till I start opening things up. Thanks to Restoration Design, they now produce this left side panel for impact bumper cars, however the rust extended further than the panel so a hand made patch was needed

Got some questions about my priming and seam sealer sequence. First I tape off where I will be welding. Then spray 2k epoxy primer. Let cure for 48 hours. I then scuf primer and clean, spread SEM 2k seam sealer, let dry 20 minutes, then cover the entire area in U-Pol weld thru primer. When I get ready to weld final piece in I will clean off little sections that I will be plug welding

My 74 needs this too. I wish I had the time to learn how. So many projects so little time.

Yeah definitely a job that can be done yourself with a little discipline and the correct tools. As Jim and I can attest it’s a **** ton of welds and very time consuming. Be prepared to pay a small fortune to have it done right

Outstanding work there. I know this job very well. It is a huge job and definitely not for the faint hearted. Cheers to anyone who can pull this off in under a very solid working-every-day-in-the-shop, long hours, week.

Part of my job includes assessing and implementing repair standards at collision shops seeking OEM certification. Every step of the repair process is scrutinized, measured and reviewed for improvement.

I've visited Jim - one guy in his garage - and his approach is similar to that of the best shops; he takes a process-driven approach and as a result learns what's required to deliver repeatable and consistently excellent results. This includes not just his super tidy and structurally sound metal work but also corrosion protection, matching Schutz textures and color matched topcoat.

We have many skilled folks showing their capabilities here on PP but Jim's work is at another level. I believe pro shops would happily put their name on his work. John in CT.
