Anyone have an in-depth knowledge of CarFax entries?

I've been running CarFax reports on quite a few vehicles, and some of them are quite confusing.

Anyone have an idea why 5 or 6 titles would be issued on a car, in multiple local cities, when there's only a couple of reported owners?

I work at an auction and read these things all the time. Fax me a copy and I'll be happy to go over it....

Sean,

Can you explain here when you look at the report? I've encoutered the same and figured dealerships (or brokers) could get hold of a car and title it yet not "own" it. Thanks.

Rick

Really appreciate it Sean.......On its way!!

Be happy to, and yes, dealers can re-assign titles without going through the state.

By the way, wanna sell that Cab of yours? :D

Ok.
1st- this car does seem to check out. I also ran NICB (National Insurance and Crime database) and Autocheck on the car and no red flags came up.
2nd- BE CAREFUL! It seems as though the car has very low miles, but remember this car is actually exempt and the dealer selling it just got it Jan 30th, so he does not really know the history. Unless you have the history, or the dealer is willing to guarantee the miles (not mark the 'exempt' box on the title) just forget about the low miles.
12/14/89 Looks like the car was sold with 696 miles new, perhaps to another dealer.
06/05/90 "Offered for sale" Hmmm. This particular report is confusing. What happened between 90 & 94 is unclear. It will take a FL title history to really see what was going on.
03/10/94 Vehicle sold @ an auction
03/23/94 Vehicle sold @ auction. Here the dealer that got it on the 10th left it at the auction or had it transported to another auction for resale. (3 miles)
07/06/94 The second purchasing dealer sold it to a retail cust
in MI!
07/19/96 Here you have another owner- looks like the sale was 6/24 & the car went down to FL. The next two entries (11/97 & 9/00) are very interesting as they show titles issued- but look at the title numbers... they are the same! Titles cannot be issued with the same #. So, again, a FL title history would clear this up.
My guess is the same owner might have paid the car off... moved... something like that.
01/30/03 I'm 100% sure the car sold at auction here (its one of ours) and I am going to PM you the details of this transaction.

There you have it. Get a PPI.
Yes, my Cabriolet will be put on the block in April. I might sell it then, might not. If I don't get at least $30k I'll still own it, and perhaps if Doug has a good A/C year he will buy it!

Hi Maurice!

I pretty much decided to stick with a cab if I go with a 3.2L/G50 car. If I can move up to a 964, I'd consider any style; couple, cab or targa.

Up until '89, the coupes look identical (except for the recessed fogs) to my '78, so I'm looking for something different this go-around.
