SC heater backdate project
79SC heater back date project is under way over here, I have a couple questions on how other members have handled the various things that are leftover.
The right side was easy. The LEFT side is/was a little more involved. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1533739882.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1533739882.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1533739882.JPG Questions are: What have other members done with the various stuff left behind on the left side of the engine compartment? IE: did you re-route the lines (for fuel, electrical, etc) to clean up that area? Did you take the bracket out of there that held the heat-fan (among other things). Also: on the left vent heat-socket there are a couple holes in it: what are they for? |
I didn't bother with re-routing anything. I have hard fuel lines and the electrics didn't really get in the way. I did buy an old engin tin so I could rout the heater hose correctly on the left side vs using the existing hole in the rear tin, maybe that helps with clearance issues. To cover the hole in the rear tin I used the lid from a canning jar. It fits perfectly, my tin is in pretty rough condition so I thought welding it up would be a waste. Someday I'll replace it with the correct tin from the older cars but for now the jar lid works, it's even countersunk a little so it sits flush, looks like it was made for it.

QueWhy:
Thank you. I like the creativity you've employed with the cap. With the hard-lines, I agree that the ability to move things around may be more difficult. I think that I am going to chip away at moving some things around; but ... what's with the left hot-air-socket having holes? What are they for? |

Both of my backdate ducts have those holes. Right side is non-Porsche, left side is the Porsche 930 duct. Not sure why they are there either.

Backdate and cleanup........
When I did the heat backdate on my SC, I got rid of lots of stuff, including the distributor!

Good times.
I buttoned up the remainder of the project over the weekend. The two holes in the left duct I plugged with a black trim xmas tree cover. Over all, I like the cleaner look and the SCEET tubing looks cool, but I am still thinking about how to clean up the lines there a bit more so that it does not look disorganized. In addition, that deck-lid seal is not exactly staying put. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1534175353.JPG |
