Yes Another Motorola Alternator Thread
I had my GEN light flicker on the other day while taking a short drive in my 72. I pulled over to look things over in the engine bay but it all seemed Ok. I drove a short distance further and the light came on solid so I turned around to go back to the garage. I used the trouble shooting guide from a post here that said if the light comes on at idle and gets brighter with RPM then it could be a voltage reg. I checked my reg for condition and the vdc at the battery at 1200 RPM was low at 12.3vdc. So I ordered an adjustable regulator and installed but no change. I removed the alt and installed my spare with no change again. I disassembled my first alt and ...well you can see it was completely toast. I also removed my spare and found it to be in the same really bad condition. I sent the first one to a local guy that rebuilds these and installed it last night. No more light! Yea!. I adjusted the voltage at the battery to about 13.6vdc with my head lights on and my AC blower on also. This was the max vdc I could get from the adjuster pot. With the lights off and blower off it is just below 14vdc. I will be driving to Rensport VI in Sept so I am really happy to have this happen only a few miles from home. I am looking forward to the approx 6500 mile trip...just me and my 72....heaven.

Well done. Great result! Can you post a link for the adjustable voltage regulator?

Here is a screen shot of the vendor. Don't forget that our host here also sells voltage regulators. I wanted an adjustable unit.
