Removing computer to clean contacts
 

Hi. I want to remove the computer connector on my 3.2 to spray the contacts with cleaner . I know it sounds dumb but I just cannot see how to remove it . I see a black tab that sticks out above the cable but it does not seem to move . What am I missing here? I’m looking for a release tab. Thanks. Maybe my old eyes just can’t see it.

I'll assume you are referring to the Motronic computer under the driver's seat; there is a metal release tab located on the computer just bellow the wire harness coming out the the connector. you pull the release tab away from the connector and then pull the connector loose from computer starting at the harness end first. the side farthest from the harness has a hook which released last.

When you figure out the "cam lock" on your ECU, spray both the connector cable pins and the pins in the ECU box, then open and close the cam lock multiple times to "exercise" the connections with the
contact cleaner on them. I highly recommend the very effective contact cleaner DeOxit D5, it's magic! After many annoying idiosyncrasies on my DME like unstable idle, intermittant start problem, etc, I did the cleaning
and the motor runs like new. Good luck!

Nick, looking at the above pic, I see the 3.2 ECU does not have a cam lock like a 3.6 ECU does, but a lock latch. But same thing
applies. Release the latch, spray contacts and open and close the connection multiple times.

Thank you! I’ll go see it and try it. Ok. I have it released but having trouble on the other side with a hook.

You need to have enough slack in the cable to pull it far enough away to slide the hook out. If you don't have enough slack, you may have to
unbolt the box from the floor to get it done.

+1 on deoxit 5, let it drip dry then reconnect. Take a close look at the connectors to insure they have not widened out by mis-alignment in the past. Use a pick tool to carefully squeeze them back if needed
