That's nice but doesn't address the original controversy

a 7 w/ 5.5" backspace as you originally posted just cannot fit right on a 911 w/ stock suspension.

The pics you last posted show wheels that appear to fit ok.

So please do us all a favor and measure the actual bakspace

This controversy was brought on by you. I just wanted to show my wheels I’m proud of and happy about and you want to bust my ball about things.

I have no issue getting that for you and if I’m wrong admitting I am but you don’t have to be so pushy

VWLoosenuts 08-17-2018 01:53 PM

Now I’m I hopes that this settles things and we can move on you you can let it go!!

But part of me says that’s not going to happen http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1534542676.jpg

I'm just naturally curious and I also know how wheels fit these cars

so yes you have a 7 and yes the back space is 5.5"

That implies the suspension is different from a stock 911

here are the facts
stock 7x16 Fuchs ET23.3 wheel
overall width ~7.7"(196mm)
front space ~2.93"(74.5mm)
Backspace ~4.77"(121.1mm)

These wheels w/a 205/55 x16 tire will often cause interference at the lip, corrective action is shave or roll lip, run more negative camber raise car.

Now your 7" wheels are
overall 8"(203mm)
front space ~2.50"(63.6mm)
back space ~5.50"(139.6mm)

this is a 7ET38
It would not fit a standard 911 very well, I'm just trying to understand why it appears to fit your car.

typically a 911 front can use up to an 8" w/ front space of up to ~3.5" back space isn't usually much of a concern here, though w/ maxed tires like a 245/ it can be an issue.

I don't really care all that much as it doesn't affect any 911 owner, I'm just curious and like to understand how things work and fit together. If this offends you sorry.

VWLoosenuts 08-17-2018 02:12 PM

Lol I knew there would be more.

Overall size yes. That’s not how you measure the width of a wheel

You can continue to post info and I will continue to post pictures disproving your “CANNOT WORK” comments.

Pictures are worth your thousand words Bill

Excuse me, but no, one doesn't generally talk about overall size , that doesn't mean it isn't there

Fuchs 7" have ~ .35" flanges, x2 makes a 7" bead wheel ~7.7"

Modern wheels almost always have .5" flanges so a modern 7" measures 8" overall

an exception is BBS which also uses ~.35" flanges

I'm just saying that there is more to the story than has been exposed so far.

There is a reason that
stock 7x16 Fuchs ET23.3 wheel
overall width ~7.7"(196mm)
front space ~2.93"(74.5mm)
Backspace ~4.77"(121.1mm)

don't appear to fit your car
your 7" wheels are
overall 8"(203mm)
front space ~2.50"(63.6mm)
back space ~5.50"(139.6mm)

this is a 7ET38

your wheels have .43" less front space than a stock 7" Fuchs

I am not saying your wheels don't fit your car, I am saying that anyone else that tries to fit them to their 911 won't be the happy camper you appear to be.

Again, just monkey curiosity on my part, I'd like to understand why.

If you are so offended by curiosity by all means drop it.

VWLoosenuts 08-17-2018 02:48 PM

I’m not the one offended. In order what I wanted in the size a figment I wanted and I got 100% what I asked for.

You use words like typically, normally and most. Those aren’t factual words in regards that other figments won’t work. jusy typically, normal and most of the time you might be right but you ( professionally) implied with your knowledge my setup that I and with the manufacture actually here to measure wouldn’t work right or be right.

Maybe it wont work on their car. I don’t know! I suggest one measures there own set up when spending $6000 on custom made wheels. Maybe just maybe they will work on there’s also? Not sure. I’m not the professional

VWLoosenuts 08-17-2018 02:51 PM

Picture of my “stock” suspension. By the rust and crust I’d say that’s factory. But again I don’t know. That’s why I we measure.

I use words like typically, normally and most because after measuring and fitting wheels and tires to 911s for the past 40 years, that's what I have learned. There is a small production variance in 911s, they are not all exactly the same, but the difference is generally small.

Obviously you are offended and have no desire to learn what makes your car different from every other 911 on the planet.

Bye bye, SmileWavy

VWLoosenuts 08-17-2018 02:55 PM

Now all this said and all that info I’m THANKFUL I didn’t spend $6000 on ofters recommendation of offset cause those front wheels would be garbage.

Move along now.

let me enjoy my setup and car and enjoy what wheel I have, cause you’re just being an ass now.

Look you are getting all worked up for no reason.

Your car is obviously different for some unknown reason.

No i'm not continuing, I have been trying to calm you down and disengage for several posts now

Enjoy your car

But Understand this, your car is different and your fitment does not apply to any other 911.

BTW you really need to lighten up, some of your comments are just not called for, totally not helpful

manbridge 74 08-17-2018 03:55 PM

Wow, it’s like arguing about head studs.

But for cryin out loud this is a Porsche forum meaning I see nothing about what they weigh!

High Life 08-17-2018 04:02 PM

Love the wheels Jeremy! Thanks for sharing.

I really like your interpretation of the Fuchs design.

Post more pics once you get the tires mounted..

David 23 08-17-2018 04:46 PM

Wheel fitment is generally of wide interest to 911 owners, and Bill has been regarded as very knowledgable in that area for many years. It seems to me he was simply trying to understand an unusual wheel configuration and fitment that didn't fit the norm. I was interested also, and I suspect others may be. I didn't sense any criticism in his comments, so perhaps constructively helping others understand an unusual configuration would be appreciated. The wheels are indeed beautifully made, weight would be interesting. I'm looking forward to seeing photos with tires.

Jeff Alton 08-17-2018 06:12 PM

Been watching this thread with interest.... I know a little about wheel fitment on these cars.

Being an 18 inch wheel (not my first choice) as the wheel diameter increases so does the available backspace as the inner lip climbs higher on the strut.

Bill is 100% correct on everything he says for 15/16/17 inch wheels. But because most people don't run 18's there isn't a bunch of data.

Most builds are most concerned about having the tire clear the outer fender lip. I have built 18's for G-body cars (race) that fit the typical build numbers.

My thoughts are unless a narrow tire is used this will rub pretty good on the inner fender/trunk wall before steering lock is reached.

I may have missed it, but what size tire are you running on the front?

The car looks like it is shaping up to be in the style of a slammed beetle, which requires a very tucked in front wheel, and IIRC that is the genre the builder of the wheels is from, so it may work out perfect.

Cheers

ryans65 08-17-2018 06:33 PM

those wheels are hot.

VWLoosenuts 08-17-2018 06:37 PM

I am beyond happy with the why is looks. Exactly what I wanted

Unique interpretation of the Fuchs pattern - its not often new, contemporary wheel designs are posted so congrats on the execution of design, function and fitment. I'm on a long, Bilbo Baggins-like quest for 17's, so seeing these custom wheels is definitely cool - new ideas of what is possible. Notwithstanding finding the $$$ to obtain between the sofa cushions could take a while...

This thread was worth reading because of the back and forth - novel wheel fitment discussion - learned something so thanks to both Bill V, VWloosenuts et al for bringing knowledge to the forum.
