smallest CDS ignition box?
Hello all -
I know a lot of people here are fans of the MSD-6 series CDS ignition boxes. I have one in my 911 and it works great. However, my biggest complaint about them is they are BIG and can be hard to install (or look bad) because of this. Given this, my question is: What is the smallest CDS ignition module on the market? I am looking for something at least half the size of an MSD. Multi-spark is ok but not required (a little bit unnecessary) and inclusion of a magnetic or optical trigger points-replacement would be great. Integrated coil is ok but not required. Any thoughts? |
Allison/Crane XR700 is about 1/4 of the size of the original Bosch unit. And it has this cool flashing led too =) Ah, and optical trigger.

I used the Accel 300+ on a few cars. Small and has a rev limiter set with DIP switches (instead of separate plug-in modules). Never had any problems.

XR700 is not CD, and neither is the XR3000. I'm using the 3000 now, but plan to go to the HI-6 for this year. That thing is HUGE, may need to go in the back seat!
The reason for my switch is my 2.2S fouls plugs unless run above 6K quite a bit. XR3000 is not the best choice for an S, maybe better for a T. |
Well, :P.
Youre correct (if we are talking about a "booster" that bumps up the voltage from 12V that goes to coil) |
The Accel unit is small. The Hi-6 is about the same size as the MSD series. The Hi-6S is smaller and fits where I could acess the rev-limiter.

Sherwood-HI6S is not CD either, correct?
Zendalar-I don't understand your response, you don't think CD is better? Crane recommends against the XR3000 on the web for engines redlined above 6500. They repeated the same to my mechanic. I figure if the car had CD new, you should stick with it, or no? |
Tod,
I believe the Hi-6S is an inductive ignition box - not CD. Sherwood Lee |
Yea, CDI boxes are good. I don't deny that, sorry the confusion. I would buy one, if I had the money for one :)
I just had typed before thinking, as usual :) |
Well, I'm just looking for an excuse to NOT replace my XR3000. :-)The car runs nicely with it, but I convinced my self I need to go back to CD. We'll see if it makes a difference once I get it all back together.
