Why Hydraulic Tensioners
What is the advantage of installing Carrera hydraulic tensioners over mechanical tensioners like the ones sold by Stromski here? https://www.stomskiracing.com/products/911-mechanical-chain-tensioners

Very simple, hydraulic tensioners adjust automatically as the chains wear and stretch, mechanical require regular adjustment. The ones Stromski sells are usually used just as an assembly aid/tool while setting the cam timing, then you replace them with the hydraulic tensioners for the rest of time.....

Also, as the engine heats and cools, the hydraulic ones adjust for expansion and contraction.

![]() I've seen higher rates of wear in the chains, sprockets, idlers, and IS with mechanical tensioners since the chains are too tight when the engine is hot.

I suppose the mechanical ones lengthen along with the chain as the engine heats up.

Also the Carrera tensioners will be more reliable and not need any rebuilds during the life of the motor, compared to the original style hydraulic ones.
